The warm embrace of the sun on your skin can be both comforting and invigorating. However, while sunlight has many benefits, it also harbors hidden dangers that can wreak havoc on your skin. Enter sunscreen – the unsung hero of skincare. Let’s the critical importance of sunscreen, delving into its various benefits and offering tips on how to choose the right one for your skin.
Protection Against Harmful UV Rays
The sun emits two types of ultraviolet (UV) rays that can damage your skin: UVA and UVB rays. UVA rays are associated with premature aging and can penetrate deep into the skin, causing wrinkles and age spots. UVB rays are responsible for causing sunburn and can lead to skin cancer. Sunscreen acts as a protective barrier, absorbing and reflecting these harmful rays, thus preventing their damaging effects.
Skin Cancer Prevention
One of the most compelling reasons to wear sunscreen is its role in preventing skin cancer. Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer worldwide, and UV exposure is a major risk factor. Regular use of sunscreen with a broad-spectrum SPF (Sun Protection Factor) significantly reduces the risk of skin cancer by shielding the skin from harmful UV radiation.
Reduces Premature Aging
Sunscreen isn’t just about preventing skin cancer; it’s also your best defense against premature aging. Exposure to UV rays can break down collagen and elastin in the skin, leading to sagging, fine lines, and wrinkles. By applying sunscreen daily, you can maintain youthful and radiant skin for longer.
Maintains an Even Skin Tone
Sunscreen helps maintain an even skin tone by preventing the formation of dark spots and hyperpigmentation. Over time, UV exposure can lead to the development of sunspots and blotchy skin. Wearing sunscreen reduces the likelihood of these unsightly blemishes, leaving your skin looking smoother and more even-toned.
Safeguards Sensitive Skin
If you have sensitive skin or skin conditions like rosacea, sunscreen is a must. UV rays can exacerbate these conditions, leading to redness, irritation, and flare-ups. Sunscreen acts as a protective barrier, shielding your skin from irritants and minimizing discomfort.
Prevents Sunburn
Sunburn isn’t just painful; it’s a sign of skin damage. Sunscreen with a high SPF rating provides effective protection against sunburn, allowing you to enjoy outdoor activities without suffering the consequences of overexposure to the sun.
Choosing the Right Sunscreen
Now that we understand the importance of sunscreen, let’s explore how to choose the right one for your skin:
Broad-Spectrum Protection: Look for a sunscreen labeled as “broad-spectrum” to ensure protection against both UVA and UVB rays.
Physical Blocker: choose a sunscreen with either Zinc Oxide or Titanium. These are minerals that help block out UV rays
SPF Rating: Select a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 for daily use. Higher SPF values (e.g., 50 or 100) offer increased protection for prolonged sun exposure.
Skin Type: Consider your skin type when choosing a sunscreen. For oily skin, opt for a lightweight, oil-free formula. If you have dry skin, choose a sunscreen with added moisturizing properties.
Water Resistance: If you’ll be swimming or sweating, opt for a water-resistant sunscreen to ensure it stays effective even when you’re in the water.
Reapplication: Remember to reapply sunscreen every two hours when outdoors, and more frequently if swimming or sweating.
Conclusion
Sunscreen is more than just a beauty product; it’s a crucial element of your daily skincare routine. By protecting your skin from harmful UV rays, sunscreen helps prevent skin cancer, premature aging, and various skin conditions. So, don’t forget to make sunscreen your daily companion on your journey to healthy and beautiful skin. Embrace the sun safely, and let sunscreen be your sunshine savior!
NAD+ IV therapy is a cutting-edge medical treatment that has been gaining popularity in recent years. NAD+ stands for nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, which is a coenzyme that plays a key role in energy production and cellular function. It is involved in many cellular processes, including DNA repair and energy production. As we age, our levels of NAD+ naturally decline, which can contribute to a variety of health issues.
NAD+ IV therapy involves the infusion of high doses of NAD+ directly into the bloodstream, bypassing the digestive system and allowing for rapid absorption and utilization by the body. This can provide a number of benefits including: increased energy, improved mental clarity and focus, enhanced athletic performance, enhanced immune function, reduced inflammation, and even anti-aging effects. In terms of specific conditions, there are several areas of research being conducted on NAD+ therapy and its potential benefits. One area of research is focused on the role of NAD+ in supporting healthy aging and longevity. Studies have shown that NAD+ levels decline as we age, and that boosting NAD+ levels may help to support healthy aging and reduce the risk of age-related diseases. Another area of research is exploring the potential of NAD+ therapy for treating addiction and substance abuse. Some studies have suggested that NAD+ therapy may help to reduce drug cravings and withdrawal symptoms, and improve overall recovery outcomes. Finally, there is also research being conducted on the potential of NAD+ therapy for treating a range of other conditions, including neurological and autoimmune disorders such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and Lyme disease, metabolic disorders, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, and more. Much of this research is still in the early stages, but the potential of NAD+ therapy to support overall health and wellness is promising.
Some potential side effects of NAD+ therapy may include nausea, headache, and dizziness. However, these side effects are typically mild and temporary, usually resolved by decreasing the infusion rate. It is important to consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new therapy to determine if it is right for you and to discuss any potential risks or side effects. At Vero Beach Medical Spa & Wellness Center we conduct a thorough health assessment and make sure this treatment is appropriate for you.
It’s very important to seek out a reputable medical spa with experienced practitioners who can provide the proper guidance and care during the treatment process. Medical spas are an ideal place to receive NAD+ IV therapy because they offer a comfortable and relaxing environment with trained medical professionals who can administer the treatment safely and effectively. The new treatment to stimulate muscles & smooth the skin giving a face lift-like effect without surgery!
As we age, our skin naturally loses elasticity (via decreased production of elastin & collagen), causing fine lines and wrinkles to appear on our face. Aging also causes decreased muscle tone & an overall weakening of muscles, especially in areas we do not exercise regularly. The loss of elasticity in our skin combined with the loss of muscle tone often leads to a sagging appearance in the face, loss of jawline contour, the formation of jowls, sagging under the chin and an overall loss of the youthful shape of our faces
At Vero Beach Medical Spa, we understand that looking and feeling your best is important, which is why we are excited to announce our latest treatment to our facial services: Trilift!!!! Trilift is a non-invasive, scalpel free treatment using Dynamic Muscle Stimulation, Tripolar Radiofrequency & Microneedling to combat the aging process. Trilift was recently featured in Vogue Magazine titled the “New Facial Teck triLift Offers Nip’n Tuck Effects – Minus the Scalpel.”
Let’s Break that information down a bit:
Radio frequency uses heat energy to stimulate collagen production and promote skin tightening. Collagen is a protein that provides structure and elasticity to our skin, and as we age, our bodies produce less of it. By heating the deeper layers of skin, radio frequency excites collagen, resulting in firmer, smoother, and more youthful-looking skin. The Tripollar RF portion of triLift is designed to deliver a customizable amount of radiofrequency energy to cater to each patient’s individual needs in order to maximize on increased skin elasticity & tightness.
The Dynamic Muscle Stimulation portion of the triLift treatment uses electromagnetic energy to contract targeted muscles in the face (or other area being treated) to strengthen them; like strength training on your body does. This helps to increase the muscle tone we lose as we age & lifts sagging muscles back into place. These muscles build a lifted structure to the face. This portion of the treatment can also be adjusted based on each person’s needs; it can be used to focus on areas like the cheeks, jawline, brows or the entire face.
Trilift also includes Tripollar Microneedling for resurfacing of the skin & an increase in your skin’s hyaluronic acid production (one study shows an increased natural production of up to 300%). This helps to smooth out fine lines, firms the skin, and improves tone & texture.
It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3!
Trilift is a wonderful treatment for those who want a face lift-like payoff, without surgery, anyone who is wanting to tone & tighten a bit, or for people who are looking to delay the aging process as long as possible. The procedure is very comfortable, has little to no down time, and can be customized to meet your needs & budget.
At Vero Beach Medical Spa, our trained professionals are trained to deliver superior results with minimal discomfort or downtime. This treatment is suitable for all skin types, and the results are long-lasting.The procedure is simple and typically takes less than an hour. After the treatment, patients can resume their daily activities immediately. They may notice some mild redness or swelling, but this typically subsides within a few hours.
To achieve the best results, we recommend a series of treatments, typically spaced a week to 10 days apart. The number of treatments required will depend on the patient’s skin condition and desired outcome. We do require a consultation, prior to starting any treatment, to ensure we are offering you the right treatment to best serve your desires. Call us today to schedule a consultation to create a personalized treatment plan to help you enjoy smoother, firmer, and more youthful-looking skin in no time.
Increase collagen production, lift, tighten, tone & contour your skin over your lunch break!
By Dr. Stephanie Million & Susana Mahaffey
Radio-frequency facials have become increasingly popular in recent years as a non-invasive way to tighten and rejuvenate the skin. They utilize radio-frequency energy to heat the deeper layers of the skin, promoting the production of collagen and elastin, which can help to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and sagging skin.
At Vero Beach Medical Spa, Radio-frequency facials (Forever Young Facials) are performed by a licensed esthetician or other trained clinician. The treatment typically begins with a thorough cleansing of the skin, followed by the application of a conductive gel or cream. The RF device is then moved over the skin in a smooth motion, delivering controlled heat to the deeper layers of the skin.
Patients may feel a warm or slightly uncomfortable sensation during the treatment, but it should not be painful. Most Radio-frequency facials take between 30 and 60 minutes to complete, depending on the size of the treatment area. Most patients see an immediate improvement in their skin!
After the treatment, you can resume all of your normal daily activities! Some patients may experience some redness or swelling, but this should subside within a few hours. It is recommended that patients avoid direct sun exposure and wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen to protect their skin after the treatment. We actually recommend wearing sunscreen ALL of the time!!!!
While radio-frequency facials can provide noticeable improvements in skin tightness and texture, it is important to note that results may vary depending on the individual’s skin type, age, and other factors. A series of treatments may be recommended to achieve optimal results.
If you are interested in exploring the benefits of a Radio-frequency facial or other cosmetic treatments, come in to determine the best options for your skin type and goals. With the right care and attention, you can achieve a more youthful and radiant appearance that will leave you feeling confident and beautiful.
Supplements can be a helpful addition to a healthy diet, providing important vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients that may be difficult to obtain through food alone. However, it is important to choose high-quality supplements to ensure that you are getting a safe and effective product. In this blog post, we will discuss the importance of getting supplements from a company that has no heavy metals and is third-party tested, compared to generic supplements.
Heavy Metals in Supplements
Some supplements may contain heavy metals such as lead, mercury, and cadmium, which can have harmful effects on health. These metals can accumulate in the body over time and lead to serious health problems such as neurological damage and cancer (1). Heavy metals can be introduced into supplements through contaminated ingredients or during the manufacturing process. Therefore, it is important to choose supplements from a company that has no heavy metals to minimize the risk of exposure.
Third-Party Testing
Third-party testing is a process where an independent laboratory analyzes a product to ensure its safety and quality. Third-party testing ensures that supplements are free from harmful contaminants such as heavy metals and pesticides. Additionally, it can verify that the supplement contains the ingredients and dosages listed on the label. By choosing a company that third-party tests their products, you can be confident that the supplement is safe and effective.
Generic Supplements vs. Third-Party Tested Supplements
Generic supplements may be cheaper and more readily available than third-party tested supplements. However, these supplements may not undergo the same rigorous testing as third-party tested supplements. As a result, the quality and safety of the supplement may be uncertain. Additionally, generic supplements may contain fillers and additives that may be harmful or have no nutritional value. By choosing third-party tested supplements from a reputable company, you can be confident that you are getting a high-quality supplement that is safe and effective.
Importance of Choosing High-Quality Supplements
Taking supplements can be a helpful way to support overall health and wellbeing. However, it is important to choose high-quality supplements to ensure that they are safe and effective. By choosing a company that has no heavy metals and is third-party tested, you can be confident that you are getting a quality product that will support your health goals.
In conclusion, choosing high-quality supplements is essential for optimal health. Supplements from a company that has no heavy metals and is third-party tested offer the greatest assurance of quality and safety. While generic supplements may be cheaper and more readily available, they may not undergo the same rigorous testing as third-party tested supplements. By choosing high-quality supplements, you can support your health and wellbeing for years to come.

Good nutrition is a cornerstone of overall health and well-being. Essential vitamins and minerals, also known as micronutrients, play a critical role in maintaining many bodily functions. However, many people may not be getting the necessary amounts of these micronutrients through their diet alone, leading to potential deficiencies that can impact overall health.
Micronutrient testing is a powerful tool that can be used to assess overall patient health and identify potential micronutrient deficiencies. In this blog post, we’ll explore what micronutrient testing is, why it’s essential, and how it can improve patient health.
What is Micronutrient Testing?
Micronutrient testing is a blood test that measures the levels of essential vitamins and minerals in the body. This test can provide valuable information about the patient’s nutrient status and help identify any deficiencies or imbalances that may be affecting their health.
Micronutrient testing typically involves collecting a blood sample from the patient and sending it to a specialized laboratory for analysis. The laboratory will then provide a comprehensive report detailing the patient’s nutrient levels and any recommendations for supplements or dietary changes to correct deficiencies.
Why is Micronutrient Testing Important?
Micronutrient testing is important for several reasons. First and foremost, it can help identify any nutrient deficiencies impacting the patient’s health. Many micronutrient deficiencies can go unnoticed for long periods, leading to many symptoms that can be difficult to diagnose.
For example, a deficiency in vitamin D can lead to fatigue, muscle weakness, and bone pain. Low vitamin B12 can cause anemia, fatigue, and neurological symptoms. Iron deficiency can lead to anemia, fatigue, and poor immune function. By identifying these deficiencies, micronutrient testing can help healthcare providers develop targeted treatment plans to correct the problem.
In addition, micronutrient testing can help identify any nutrient imbalances contributing to health issues. For example, excess levels of certain minerals, such as copper or zinc, can cause health problems. Micronutrient testing can help identify these imbalances and allow healthcare providers to develop targeted treatment plans to restore balance.
Finally, micronutrient testing can also help patients optimize their nutrition and overall health. Identifying deficiencies or imbalances allows patients to make targeted dietary changes or take targeted supplements to address their specific needs. This can help them feel better and perform better in their daily lives.
How is Micronutrient Testing Used in Practice?
Micronutrient testing can be used in a variety of healthcare settings, from primary care to functional medicine. Healthcare providers may use micronutrient testing to assess overall health and well-being, identify potential deficiencies or imbalances, and develop targeted treatment plans to address these issues.
For example, a primary care physician may order micronutrient testing for a patient experiencing fatigue and other non-specific symptoms. If the test shows a deficiency in vitamin D, the physician may recommend that the patient take a vitamin D supplement to correct the problem.
Functional medicine practitioners may also use micronutrient testing as part of a comprehensive approach to patient care. They may use the test to identify any nutrient deficiencies or imbalances that may be contributing to chronic health issues, such as autoimmune diseases or digestive disorders. Functional medicine practitioners can help patients achieve optimal health and wellbeing by addressing these underlying issues.
Conclusion
Micronutrient testing is a powerful tool that can be used to assess overall patient health and identify potential micronutrient deficiencies or imbalances. Healthcare providers can develop targeted treatment plans to improve patient health and well-being by identifying these issues. If you are concerned about your nutrient status or are experiencing non-specific symptoms, talk to your healthcare provider.
Many people, especially those who suffer from chronic diseases, believe that their brain is the only organ of their body that can influence how they feel. But the truth is that our gut-brain connection plays a key role in our health, including mental wellbeing. Indeed, a number of studies have shown links between gastrointestinal issues and brain function.
This article will explore why understanding this connection could help us live healthier lives.
The GI Brain: Importance of Getting Intelligent about your Gut-Brain Connection: understanding the importance of gut health for not only physical but mental wellbeing.
What Is The Gut-Brain Axis?
The gut-brain axis is the relationship between gut health and brain health. It’s also known as the “gut-brain axis” or “microbiome-gut-brain axis.” This is the connection between the central nervous system (CNS) and the enteric nervous system (ENS). The gut has influence to effect the brain and mood just as the brain has the power to effect the function of the gut. There are multiple pathways that have influence over the gut-brain communication including: chemical produced by the gut microbiome, inflamation, neurotransmitters, and the vagus nerve (1).
The gut is an important organ that affects your mood, behavior and overall well-being. In fact, it can affect your risk of developing disease—and even make you feel better when you have a cold! But how exactly does this happen?
The gut–brain axis is a bi-directional communication system between the gastrointestinal tract and the central nervous system. The gut microbiota, composed of trillions of bacteria, interacts with the immune system, nervous system, and endocrine system to influence brain development, neurotransmission, and behavior.
The microbiota–gut–brain axis has been shown to be involved in a number of psychiatric and neurological disorders, including major depressive disorder, autism spectrum disorder, and Parkinson’s disease. The gut–brain axis is a complex system, and the mechanisms by which the gut microbiota affects the brain are not fully understood. However, the microbiota–gut–brain axis is a promising target for the treatment of psychiatric and neurological disorders.
How Does the Gut-Brain Axis Affect Your Mood and Behavior?
You may be wondering how the gut-brain axis affects your mood and behavior. ?Here’s why: your brain and gut health are closely linked, so when one is compromised by chronic stress or poor diet, it has an effect on the other as well. In fact, studies show that those with good digestive function tend to have happier brains than those who suffer from constipation, diarrhea or IBS. Our gut contains 90% of our seritonin receptors, which means this greatly impacts our mood in a negative or positive way. Researches have examined the gut microbiome and noticed that there was infact a difference between the microbiome in people with mental disorders such as depression, anxiety, skitzophrenia, hypomania, parkinsons and more. In people with the absence of mental disorders researches noticed that their gut microbime was drastically healthier than those with a diagnosed mental disorder (1).
The journal of Pharmacological Research published a review in 2021 suggests that the onset and progression of mental health conditions, such as anxiety and depression, can be influenced by poor gut health. The review states that in patients suffering from depressive disorders, levels of Enterobacteriaceae and Alistipes (“bad” bacteria) were increased and the level of Faecalibacterium (“good” bacteria) was reduced (2). It was also found that in patients with mental health disorders there was less less diversity in gut bacteria and a decrease in bacteria producing short chain fatty acids (which can cross the blood brain barrier and effect brain function) (2).
Weight Management and GI Health
You may be wondering: How can I improve my gut health?
Gut health affects weight management and the ability to lose or maintain weight loss. For example, if you are eating a high-fiber diet and have few symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) or other digestive disorders like Crohn’s disease, then your gut is likely healthy. If you have more than three IBS symptoms per week on a scale from 0–10 (0 being no symptoms at all), then it could be time for some extra help in improving your overall health—by getting smart about what foods and drinks you consume!
You can improve your gut health for brain health.
As more research on the gut-brain connection has been published, it’s clear that you can improve your gut health for brain health. The following steps will help you do just that:
Eat a diet high in fiber and low in saturated fat, trans fat and cholesterol. These foods are good for the stomach and intestines because they’re easy for our bodies to digest; they may also reduce inflammation in these organs.* Limit alcohol consumption to two drinks a day (or less). Alcohol increases oxidative stress that causes cell death in the GI tract.* Take probiotics supplements if you want them—but don’t take them if you have allergies or sensitivities! Probiotics are best taken after meals when they’ll be most effective at helping grow healthy gut bacteria.* Keep track of what goes into your mouth at all times—that way when dietary indiscretions occur there won’t be any surprises later down the road.
Here are a few tips: · – eat a healthy diet that includes plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains · – exercise regularly · – get enough sleep · – manage stress · – take probiotics or eat fermented foods By following these tips, you can help improve your gut-brain connection and promote overall health and well-being. There are a lot of different ways to improve your gut-brain connection. Some of these methods are more well-known than others, but all of them can be effective in their own way One way to improve your gut-brain connection is to eat probiotic foods. These are foods that contain live bacteria and yeasts that can help to promote a healthy gut. Some examples of probiotic foods include yogurt, sauerkraut, kimchi, and miso. Another way to improve your gut-brain connection is to take probiotic supplements. These supplements can help to replenish the good bacteria in your gut, which can lead to better gut health overall.
Finally, you can also try to reduce stress in your life. Stress can have a negative impact on gut health, so it’s important to find ways to de stress. In conclusion, the gut-brain connection is an important one to consider when trying to improve overall health and wellbeing. The gut is home to a large number of bacteria, and these bacteria can influence the brain in a number of ways. By improving gut health, we can improve our overall health and wellbeing. In conclusion, the gut-brain connection is a complex and important relationship that has a significant impact on overall health and wellbeing (3). Gut health is important for a variety of reasons, and we must take steps to improve and maintain gut health in order to improve our overall health. In conclusion, the gut-brain connection is important for overall health and wellbeing. The gut is home to a huge number of bacteria, and these bacteria play a role in everything from digestion to mood. When the gut is healthy, the rest of the body tends to be healthy as well. Therefore, it is important to focus on gut health in order to improve overall health and wellbeing. The gut-brain connection is an important one that should not be ignored.
Conclusion
There are many benefits to having a healthy gut-brain connection, such as improved mental well-being, a stronger immune system, and reduced inflammation. This is why it’s important to take care of your gut health and to eat a healthy diet that includes probiotic-rich foods. The gut-brain connection is the communication between the digestive system and the brain. It’s a two-way street: the brain can influence gut function, and the gut can influence the brain. This connection affects mood, energy levels, digestion, immunity, and more.
We believe that taking care of your gut is essential if you want to be healthy, and we hope this article has encouraged you to think about the connection between your brain and gut. We encourage you to speak with a doctor or nutritionist who can help you determine whether or not there are any underlying health issues that may be causing your GI symptoms—and if so, what treatments might be most appropriate for treating them.

Have you been trying to lose weight through diet & exercise, but aren’t having much success? You aren’t alone, it is estimated that over ⅔ of adults in the US are overweight or struggling with obesity. Research indicates most individuals with a high body mass index have a very low chance of reaching a normal BMI without some form of medical intervention. There are so many medical interventions out there including bariatric surgery, non-surgical weight loss procedures, personalized diet plans, and medications, it can be hard to decide where to begin. We hope this brief entry gives you some guidance into some of the treatment options available. We will go into more details on each of the subjects discussed in the near future. Until then, if you have any questions or would like to meet with us in consultation give us a call 772-907-5848.
Weight Loss Medications
There are a number of medications available to help with weight loss, however these medications are not right for everyone & are intended to be used in conjunction with dietary modifications, physical exercise, behavioral & lifestyle modifications. When used alone, these medications are most often ineffective & can be harmful. It is important to discuss the use of weight loss medications with a health care provider in order to fully determine the risks & benefits of use & to ensure these medications are part of a lifestyle that is right for each individual. We will focus on the most common prescription medications used for weight loss; medications prescribed by a healthcare provider that cannot be purchased over the counter or online. Some of the most common prescription weight loss medications include:
Semaglutide: Semaglutide is a Glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist; a compound that mimics a molecule our body already makes to increase the secretion of insulin, decrease the secretion of glucagon, and slows gastric emptying. Increased insulin levels decreased blood sugar levels, which makes this medication a desirable treatment for people with diabetes. Decreased levels of glucagon helps slow the body’s ability to produce glucose from sugars stored in the liver. The combined action of increasing insulin levels & decreasing the body’s production of glucose have been found to lead to the feeling of fullness & satisfaction from smaller portions of food. Semaglutide has also been found to slow digestion in the stomach, which also decreases hunger, food cravings & aids in weight loss.
Tirzepatide: Terzepatide is a dual acting GLP-1 like peptide & glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (Gastric inhibitory polypeptide or GIP) agonist. An agonist is a substance that binds to a receptor in the body that causes the body to complete an action caused by a substance the body already makes that normally binds to these receptors, thus enhancing something the body does on it’s own. GIP and GLP-1 receptors are found in regions of the GI tract & brain to aid in the regulation of insulin secretion & food intake. Terzepatide works with the body to enhance the activities in these areas thereby increasing insulin secretion, decreasing the body’s production of sugars, slowing digestion & decreasing appetite, thereby aiding in the management of diabetes & weight loss.
Orlistat: Orlistat inhibits pancreatic lipase causing alterations in the way the body digests fat. In doing so it causes a decreased absorption of fats by the body by increasing the fecal excretion of fats.
Phentermine-topiramate: Phentermine & Topiramate are drugs commonly used independently to treat various disorders including seizures, migraines, and short term weight loss. Phentermine is a sympathomimetic medication that acts as a central nervous system stimulant & increases the release of norepinephrine & epinephrine in the body. The exact role mechanism of action in weight loss is unclear. Topiramate is an anticonvulsant that acts to stabilize cell membranes & has been found to cause appetite suppression. The use of this medication combination is contraindicated in pregnancy, hyperthyroidism, glaucoma, cardiovascular disease & requires close monitoring.
Bupropion-naltrexone: Bupropion is a medication used to treat depression & aid in smoking cessation. Naltrexone is an opioid-receptor agonist used in the treatment of alcohol and opioid dependence. The use of these 2 medications used together is thought to decrease hunger or the intake of food by combining their actions in the midbrain. The cardiovascular safety of this combination is uncertain, thus it is not typically a first line therapy.
Medically Guided Nutrition Programs
As noted above, weight loss medications are not meant to replace dietary & lifestyle changes & are typically ineffective when used alone. A key component in weight loss is understanding your individual nutritional needs & implementing them into your daily life. At Vero Beach Medical Spa & Wellness Center, we understand a one-size-fits-all approach to nutrition does not work for everyone because people have different nutritional requirements based on their age, gender, body composition, activity level, lifestyle and underlying health conditions. It’s important to work with a healthcare provider when customizing a nutrition plan, as they can provide personalized guidance and recommendations based on the individual’s unique circumstances. We also offer lab testing to help identify more specific imbalances & issues that could be contributing to weight gain or interfering with weight loss.
Our personalized nutrition support program offers a wide range of nutritional interventions, including customized meal plans, targeted supplements, IV therapies and lifestyle recommendations to help you lose weight, slow down the aging process, and optimize your overall health and wellbeing. Our programs are designed to help you, as an individual, achieve your weight loss and anti-aging goals, while also improving your overall wellbeing. This program can be used in combination with other treatment modalities (including medications) or independently depending on your goals & needs. Whether you’re looking to lose weight, reduce inflammation, improve digestion, or simply feel your best, our personalized nutrition support program can help you achieve your goals. Our team is committed to providing the highest level of care and support to help you reach your full potential and achieve optimal health.
Special Testing
Special testing is not required as part of our weight loss programs, but is often very helpful in creating a comprehensive understanding of your overall health to aid in the creation of a customized meal plan, tailored are important because they allow for your unique nutritional needs, preferences, and health goals.
Micronutrient Testing:
A micronutrient test is a laboratory test that measures the levels of vitamins, minerals, and other essential nutrients in the body. These nutrients play important roles in many physiological processes, including metabolism, skin health, and immune function.
Micronutrient deficiencies can contribute to a variety of health issues, including weight gain or difficulty losing weight, skin problems, and overall well-being. For example, deficiencies in vitamin D, magnesium, and chromium have been linked to weight gain and metabolic dysfunction. Deficiencies in vitamin C and vitamin E can contribute to premature aging and skin damage. A deficiency in zinc can compromise immune function and increase the risk of infection.
By identifying nutrient deficiencies through micronutrient testing, it will allow the practitioners at vero beach medical spa to address these issues through targeted interventions, such as changes to the diet, supplementation with specific vitamins and minerals, or other lifestyle modifications. This can lead to improvements in weight loss, skin health, and overall well-being. Micronutrient testing is an important tool for promoting optimal health and identifying underlying issues that may be contributing to health problems. By addressing these issues through targeted interventions, it may be possible to achieve improved health outcomes and prevent chronic diseases.
GI Mapping:
The GI Map test can play an essential role in maintaining good skin health and promoting weight loss by identifying and addressing underlying digestive issues that can contribute to these conditions.
First, the test can identify imbalances in the gut microbiome, such as an overgrowth of harmful bacteria or a deficiency of beneficial bacteria. These imbalances can contribute to inflammation throughout the body, manifesting as skin issues such as acne, eczema, or psoriasis. By rebalancing the microbiome through targeted interventions, such as dietary changes or probiotic supplementation, it may be possible to improve skin health.
Second, the test can help identify malabsorption issues, which can lead to nutrient deficiencies that can contribute to weight gain or make weight loss more difficult. For example, if the test reveals low levels of digestive enzymes, it may be necessary to supplement with these enzymes to improve nutrient absorption and support healthy weight loss.
The GI Map test provides a comprehensive understanding of an individual’s digestive health and can help identify underlying issues that may be contributing to skin problems and weight management challenges. By addressing these issues through targeted interventions, it may be possible to achieve improved skin health and successful weight loss.

BBL is a non-invasive skincare treatment developed by Sciton to deliver the power of Broad Band Light into the skin to stimulate skin cells to repair & regenerate. Clinical research from Stanford University done over a 10 year period found the use of BBL at least twice a year not only provides a cosmetic benefit, but also induces a functional change in gene expression actually causing skin cells to act younger! Yes, you read that correctly BBL has been clinically proven to fight skin aging! The studie’s show BBL treatments can rejuvenate and reset the genetic code in your skin; basically turning back the hands of time causing your skin cells to act younger & more collagen & elastin, like it did in your 20s and 30s! The American Society of Plastic Surgeons says Sciton Broad Band Light is the only laser device to accurately target the molecules in the skin associated with the aging process, stimulating the body’s natural ability to regenerate healthy, new skin!!!
But wait there’s more:
Sciton BBL treats much more than the aging process. BBL can be used to treat a myriad of skin conditions such as sun spots, rosacea, acne, acne scarring freckle reduction, pigmentation irregularities, age spots, small vessels, cherry hemangiomas, bruises, large pores, loose skin, and unwanted hair.
Sciton Forever Clear is an FDA-Cleared non-invasive treatment for acne in adults & teens. It is a virtually painless, gentle, 3 step process that utilizes Blue Light to eliminate acne causing bacteria deep in the pores. Yellow Light is then used to reduce inflammation & redness. The 3rd step uses infra-red light to initiate the body’s natural healing process. Forever Clear has become the cutting edge way to treat acne without medication.
Why stop at your face? Skin is your body’s largest organ, shouldn’t you take care if all of it?
Skin is the largest & heaviest organ (fun factoid it makes up about 1/7 of your body weight). It works endlessly, like a coat of arms to protect your body from harm. It acts as a barrier against bacteria, toxins, fungus, viruses, pollutants, UV rays, and physical trauma. It contains specialized sensors to allow you to feel heat, cold, pressure, itching and pain. Some of these special sensors trigger automatic reflexes protecting you from burns or cuts. Your skin also plays a vital role in regulating your body temperature, preventing dehydration, hormone production, and storage of fat, water & metabolic products. Your skin is important & vital to your health. Healthy skin is very important in maintaining your appearance & your overall health.
BBL Treatments shouldn’t be reserved for your face. Sciton BBL Hero & Forever Body treatments can be done from head to toe! BBL Body Treatments are comfortable, have no downtime, and have the same benefits as BBL treatments on the face: elimination of age spots, sun spots, pigment irregularities, unwanted hair, and signs of visible aging.
Frequently Asked Questions About BBL:
How many treatments will I need? The number of treatments needed varies from patient to patient, based on many factors, such as what condition BBL is being used to treat, the current condition of the skin & your desired goals. Most conditions require 3-5 treatments with recommended upkeep sessions 1-2 times a year. We would love to meet with you, evaluate your concerns & personalize a treatment plan for you. Consultations with Dr. Million, Tricia DiDomenico & Irene Coronado can be scheduled online at www.verobeachmedicalspa.com or by calling 772-907-5848.
What do I need to do before my treatment? Prior to your BBL treatment you should discontinue the use of Tretinoin or Retinol for 1 week. You should also avoid sun exposure for 7-10 days pre & post treatment. Living in Florida can make it difficult to avoid the sun completely, we offer a variety of medical grade sunscreens intended for use pre & post laser treatment. Stop by any time for recommendations.
What areas can be treated? Any area of your body can be treated. The most common areas are face, neck, chest, back, legs, shoulders, arms and the back of the hands.
What should I expect on the day of treatment? You should arrive to the clinic with clean skin at least 15 minutes prior to your appointment time. We suggest bringing a sun visor or hat with you if your face, neck, or chest are being treated. If you are having your face or neck treated a topical numbing cream will be applied to the area & will need to stay in place for 45 minutes before your BBL session begins. Your skin will then be cleaned and prepped for treatment. Your eyes will be protected with safety shields or glasses, clear gel will be applied to the area being treated & your BBL treatment will begin. You may feel a warm sensation & see some flashing of light during the session. The length of the treatment will vary by the size & number of areas being treated. BBL of the face typically takes 30 minutes. After your treatment the clear gel will be removed, & soothing post-laser cream will be applied. Once the cream has dried sunscreen will be applied to the treated areas.
How long is the recovery & what should I expect after the treatment? You may experience some redness after your treatment. This typically resolves within 24 hours. You can apply make-up, return to work & all of your regular activities immediately after treatment. The only activity you must avoid is direct sun exposure! You must wear sunscreen!!!! Over the next week you may notice some of the pigmented spots on your skin appear darker &/or more superficial, this will go away within 7-10 days, resulting in fading of the spots or uneven pigmentation, smoother feeling skin, and a more youthful appearance.
Is there anything I should or could do to make sure I get the best results possible? There are a few things you can do to enhance your results. The most important thing is to wear a high quality mineral based sunscreen. This is important even if you are not undergoing laser treatments! Adding a Moxi treatment,Dermaplaning, Botox, Dysport, & regular Medi-Facials are great ways to enhance your BBL results. There are many factors that play a role in skin health, including products used on the skin, nutrition, other aesthetic/skincare treatments, and the use of certain medications. Meeting with one of our providers to make sure you are getting the most out of your BBL treatments is always recommended. Your results matter to us & we want to help you love the skin you’re in! We are always happy to have a consultation with you about your skincare goals & give guidance on the use of products, nutrition, Moxi, & other treatments available to you. We will work together to help personalize a plan that is individualized to your specific needs, concerns, and lifestyle. Call us anytime at 772-907-5848.

An introduction to medical grade skincare & why its worth buying
by Julia Amelio, Licensed Esthetician
One of the main differences between drugstore and medical grade skincare, is the potency and concentration of the active ingredients. In skincare, the active ingredients are the ingredients that are going to help your skin actually get the results you are wanting to see. Vitamin C, Retinoids, AHA’s & hyaluronic acid are all examples of active ingredients. You may find these ingredients in your drugstore skincare but, it’s not a high enough concentration to achieve the desired results you are looking for. Medical grade skincare contains a higher concentration of active ingredients, making the product way more effective. Over the counter skincare products cannot technically “treat” a skincare concern like medical grade skincare can.
All medical grade skincare companies have to complete extensive clinical trials and research, so their product claims are backed up by strong clinical evidence. Obagi Medical Skincare is one of our spa’s most popular lines. Obagi spends years testing and researching their products and ingredients to make sure they’re giving us the best and most effective version of their products.
Along with using a medical grade skincare routine at home, an important step of taking care of your skin is receiving frequent Medi-facials. This is a specific type of facial that uses advanced technology as well as medical grade products. A Medi-facial can help target specific skincare needs in a way that a normal salon facial cannot do. Medi-facials can specifically target and help skin troubles such as fine lines, wrinkles, acne, acne scars, hyperpigmentation, photoaging, and dull skin. The combination use of Medi-facials and following a medical grade skincare routine will put you on the road to achieving your skincare goals and having a youthful glow.
